Valere’s Relationship Statements:
Philippe (Paul): “Such a brash, hot-headed and seriously angry young man. And I love him…”
“I remember this one time at school when I was helping a young girl out of a mess with a particularly abusive young male. His friends jumped me out of nowhere and I thought I was done for. But then along came Philippe and single-handedly took out three guys all on his own. I heard later that it was quite the fight. At the end, I looked up from the ground and saw my brother standing there with hands on hips; he just calmly picked me up and, with a knowing grin, stated, “I’m here to help you do your job.”
Dylon (Chris): “Dylon and I are like the thorn and the petal of the same rose. Both necessary for the rose to
“I remember one particularly grim night on the island; a bunch of “fresh meat” had arrived and people were quickly taking ‘sides’ (some were just ‘taken’). I’ll never forget the look on Dylon’s face when he saw a young boy being grabbed by one a particularly grim fellow by the name of ‘Tickler’. It’s like the rest of the world went grey and he lunged forward with no thought of his own safety. He grabbed the boy first and put himself in between the two; in a flash his knee found its way forcefuuly into the Tickler’s ribs and he was down on the ground. He spit on the ground next to him and added, as he walked away, “You have no right to determine anyone else’s freedom. This better not happen again…”
Bastiaen (Mark): “A man I look up to. A rare gem indeed. He reminds me of father…”
“I remember a particularly cold day on the island. Temperaments were also just as cold. People were miserable. Bastiaen said he needed to acquire some cloth or tarp or something and so I accompanied him to the market. Being a smaller gentleman, he is often the target of bullies and today was no exception. I was going to intervene when he did something amazing; in a short few minutes, he had the bully convinced that he needed a product from one of the tables and “persuaded” him to buy it after Bastiaen purchased it. It left me speechless. Bastiaen walked away with a few coin he did not have at the beginning. Oh, and he finally did get the tarp… but ended up giving it to someone who needed it more. Like I said… a rare gem.”
A Knight’s Opinions
Allende – Valere and Allende immediately got along! We are similar and, knowing that people go to prison for all sorts of reasons, believes the rumour about him being the Prince. Allende is an upright individual and the two of them became fast friends. They have come to watch each other’s backs (lots of backstabbing)…
Alesio – Allende vouches for her and that is as good as gold… Valere enjoys talking to Alesio and has even brought up the ‘sorcery’ question… even though she brushes it off, Valere is seriously intrigued and wishes she would open up about her abilities (if she even has them…).
Sean – “Oh, Sean…” (Valere has been known to whisper this under his breath more than a few times). Valere sees Sean like he sees his brother – impetuous and brash and the reason things go awry. And like his brother, Sean doesn’t listen well and so the two of them don’t really see eye-to-eye. Valere respects the man as an individual with ability and perseverance… but they won’t be sitting down to tea anytime soon.
Bjorn – Valere finds Bjorn absolutely fascinating… kind of reminds him of his father. A true gentleman. The two share a love of wine and Bjorn has taught Valere a lot in the time that they have known each other.
Vasco – valere has no tolerance for cruelty… NONE! And that intolerance makes no excuses. He keeps his distance and watches Vasco intently…
